Mathematics

In the Mathematics department we offer both Mathematics and Applications of Mathematics courses. Mathematics can be studied all the way to Advanced Higher and Applications of Maths can be studied up to Higher.

The Mathematics courses focus on the abstract and logical foundations of maths and area largely focused on algebra, geometry and later on calculus. This pathway is best for pupils who enjoy solving “pure” maths problems and those who are considering careers in Engineering, Physics, Medicine or Computing.

The Applications courses have a more ‘practical’ focus to them, with topics used in everyday life such as finance and real-world applications of geometry and statistics. These courses are widely accepted for Nursing and Business careers, among others.
