English and History Trip

Three classes from S3 English and History embarked on a class trip to the pristine and impressive Wick Archives on Tuesday the 15th of May. In the morning they travelled via train to Wick, then trekked on foot to the brand new building containing historic artefacts. Groups were allocated to different rooms consisting of WW1 and WW2 documents. In the first room there were several World War newspapers and activities to do with them, the second room contained articles and old war essentials, the final room was made up of worksheets and WW1 drawing activities. In the second room a book stood out to some students as it held a detailed list of Scottish last names and their origins in alphabetical order. The students found the building very exciting as when they arrived they were notified that it was high security facility because it was a part of The Nucleus (a member of the civil nuclear industries). Teachers and students agreed that they thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience as it linked in with the WW1 poetry topic.
