Preparing for school closure

Dear Parent/Guardian

Please see the information in the 'Parent-Information' tab on this website on how Thurso High School staff will be supporting your child(ren) in the weeks ahead so that their education can continue as fully as possible.

This depends largely on working through Google Classroom which can be accessed through the pupil’s Chromebook, any laptop or a smartphone with data or Wi-Fi. Pupils will be set work and can communicate with their teachers.

We have asked pupils if they have problems with Wi-Fi or device to let us know. If this is the case we will provide what we can in paper form but it will be difficult to have the teacher contact.

We are in the process of speaking to all pupils about the importance of self-motivation and organisation so that they make the most of what the teachers are offering. Parents/carers can support their children by ensuring that a suitable work space is allocated and that children maintain their routines of getting up in good time, doing their school work before they do other things and keeping a good sleep pattern. Teachers will aim to supply pupils with the jotters that they need. If you have signed up to be a google guardian, you will receive a notification each time a teacher posts an assignment.

These are difficult times, particularly for senior pupils sitting exams, and we are all working to ensure that pupils’ education does not suffer.
